Coop Pank will start offering police officers, rescuers, military personnel, and members of the Defence League a flexible housing loan called Kodukaitsja, with preferential terms and a margin starting from 1.49%.
As of February 24, Coop Pank is offering a housing loan on preferential terms to individuals working in internal security and national defence. The interest rate for Kodukaitsja loan starts from 1.49%, plus a six-month Euribor. The loan has no contract fee, and early repayment is free of charge. Additionally, in the first year, the bank covers credit payment insurance costs up to 100 euros, providing extra security in cases such as prolonged illness or job loss.
All national defenders can repay the housing loan according to a personalized payment schedule, meaning that for the first two years they are able to defer payments entirely or pay only interest. Choosing a personalized schedule helps reduce monthly payments at the beginning of the loan term, making it easier to acquire and furnish a home.
Head of Housing Loans at Coop Pank, Karin Ossipova, stated that offering a housing loan on preferential terms to police officers, rescuers, military personnel, and members of the Defence League aligns with the bank’s values and its commitment to supporting the successful functioning and development of Estonian society: “Police officers, rescuers, military personnel, and members of the Defence League play a key role in ensuring Estonia’s security, yet acquiring a home can be challenging for them. Coop Pank wants to provide them with confidence and better loan conditions so that all our defenders can obtain a home they and their families deserve”.
All police officers, rescuers, military personnel, and members of the Defence League can apply for Kodukaitsja housing loan for purchasing, building, renovating a home, or refinancing an existing mortgage.
The applicant can be either the primary borrower or co-borrower. It is essential that at least one of the borrowers serves in the Defence Forces (military personnel), the Rescue Board (rescuers), the Police and Border Guard Board (police officers, border guards, emergency centre workers), or is a Defence Forces veteran, a member of the Defence League, Naiskodukaitse, or a volunteer rescuer.
Kodukaitsja housing loan can be combined with various housing loan guarantees from the Estonian Business and Innovation Agency (EIS, formerly KredEx), significantly reducing the required down payment. “Among the most popular are guarantees for young specialists, young families, and large families. Additionally, EIS offers a housing loan guarantee for veterans of the Defence Forces and the Defence League who have participated in foreign missions or sustained injuries while serving in Estonia. Defenders of the homeland living in more remote areas can benefit from EIS’s rural housing loan guarantee and a co-loan from the Rural Development Foundation (MES), both of which simplify home construction outside major urban centres,” said Ossipova.
Since 2024, Coop Pank has also been offering a housing loan on preferential terms to teachers. Last year, every tenth new housing loan agreement at Coop Pank was signed with a general education school or kindergarten teacher, with such loans being issued in all counties across Estonia.
